Government sits at the heart of a web of data on individuals. By sharing this data within and across departments, it can improve the design, delivery and effectiveness of public services.
There are, however, various barriers that must be tackled if government is to make best use of this data. Indeed, there are technical, legal and accountability challenges to data sharing that must be addressed.
