How to run a country

Reform is undertaking a major research programme looking at the state of public governance and the implications for maintaining fiscal consolidation into the next Parliament.

In September 2014, Reform published a collection of essays with contributions from current and former politicians, civil servants and other key stakeholders exploring reform of Parliament, Government and Civil Service.

Reform’s previous research projects include:

  • An assessment of the Coalition’s progress on deregulation, testing whether the Prime Minister will achieve his ambition “to be the first government in modern history to leave office having reduced the overall burden of regulation, rather than increasing it”
  • Successful financial management in New Zealand
  • System-wide reform of UK public governance structures
  • Digital transformation of public governance
