Financial Times, 26 February 2016

The Financial Times wrote an article on the Government’s recent announcement that its contract with Steatite, to produce bespoke electronic tags, is ending. Instead, it will look for existing, off-the-shelf technology to meet its needs.

In the article, Reform‘s findings in its report, Cutting crime: the role of tagging in offender management, was cited. Findings included the fact that tagging could reduce prisoner costs and, pointing to US research, could be used to encourage prisoner rehabilitation.

“Charlotte Pickles, senior research director at Reform, welcomed the decision. “Essentially Michael Gove has torn up the plan and focused on how you cut reoffending. Tagging should play a central role in that.”
