The Daily Mail published an article covering Reform‘s latest report, Working welfare: a radically new approach to sickness and disability benefits, which argues that a radical overhaul of the current disability welfare system is needed.
The article highlighted the report’s key findings, including the fact that the higher benefit rate of Employment and Support Allowance is inadvertently encouraging people to stay on benefits rather than seeking work and, as part of the reform, ESA payments would be reduced. However, savings made from this would be reinvested into other benefits, such as the Disability Living Allowance, and into support programmes to help people back into work.
