Reform held an event with Rt Hon Theresa May, Home Secretary, on fire service reform. This was her first speech on the subject since the Home Office took over responsibility for it in January 2016.
The speech was covered on BBC Radio 4’s World at One. Martha Kearney provides a summary of the speech and the Home Secretary’s main recommendations going forward, including increased accountability and diversity in the workforce. Matt Wrack, General Secretary of the Fire Brigades Union and Sir Ken Knight, former Chief Fire and Rescue Adviser for the Government, who attended the event, also share their view on the speech.
