The billion pound question: how to reduce fraud and error in the benefits system

Reform convened a private policy roundtable, led by the Minister of State for Welfare Reform Lord Freud, to explore what more government could do to reduce fraud and error in the benefits system.

The event addressed three themes. First, why fraud and error – despite the attempts of successive governments – remains so high. Second, whether central and local government are sufficiently incentivised to root out fraud and error. Third, how government could make more use of third-party data to identify potentially fraudulent claims.

The event was held in partnership with Liberata.
