On 21 February, Rob Webster, Chief Executive of the NHS Federation will lead a discussion on “the future of health policy”.
In the next Parliament budgets are expected to remain constrained and there will be continued need to deliver value for money in the face of an ageing population and the growing prevalence of chronic illness. All political parties are now calling for greater integration of health services to improve outcomes and value for money and rising expectations means new ideas will be needed to ensure access to new treatments and create more patient-centred care. Maintaining a high quality, sustainable NHS will therefore be a key priority for the next Government yet, as we have often seen this Parliament, there is little political appetite for the tough choices that this will involve, whether about funding or service redesign.
