Patrons’ Dinner with David Gauke MP

Reform was delighted to host David Gauke MP, Financial Secretary to the Treasury, at a private policy dinner on ‘UK business in a competitive world’. Speaking last year, David Gauke said that taxation was “one of the quickest methods of improving, or destroying, a country’s competitiveness”. Both the level of taxation and the quality of tax administration are key determinants of UK competitiveness.

This event explored the role of taxation and the wider conditions needed to support British businesses and help the wider economy succeed. David Gauke, the most experienced Treasury Minister after George Osborne, has pioneered work within Government to improve tax administration, via a major and successful reform programme at HMRC.

The dinner was the second of two Patrons’ dinners for 2016, following the recent dinner with John Manzoni, Chief Executive of the Civil Service.
