The NHS needs to change radically to deliver better care for Britain’s ageing population. As Dr Paul Williams MP has highlighted, there needs to be a seismic shift in the NHS, from the treatment of illness to prevention. He has argued that there is currently too much of an emphasis on care delivered in hospitals. Instead the NHS needs to focus on how it can help people live as healthy lives as possible and stay out of acute care. He has argued that the NHS needs to create integrated care trusts that deliver personalised care in the community and to move away from funding models that reward the failure of prevention. With the Government set to announce its long-term plan for the NHS this Autumn, the need for a high-level discussion on what this new model of care should look like and how to enable it could hardly be greater
We are delighted that Dr Paul Williams, Labour MP, practicing GP and member of the Health and Social Care Select Committee will lead this event. The breakfast will bring together around 20 of Reform’s senior network and partners. It will be conducted under the Chatham House Rule.
