Chief Secretary to the Treasury, Rt Hon David Gauke MP, delivered a speech for Reform, in partnership with Deloitte, on improving government efficiency and value for money. This was the first time he spoke on the theme since his appointment.
He set out his vision for delivering greater value for money in public services through a mix of continuity and innovation. He sees the economic challenges that lay ahead as an opportunity for strategic reform and improvement of public services.
The Minister underlined the successes of previous reforms, which sought to promote the digitisation of government, delivering savings and greater efficiency. He encouraged such initiatives to be pursued and extended. He also highlighted the importance of keeping a “spirit of constant innovation” at all levels of government. Delivering greater value for money was described as the key way to make sure that public spending is used to transform people’s lives.
