Artificial Intelligence in Healthcare

Both the Life Sciences Industrial Strategy and the Government’s Review, Growing the Artificial Intelligence Industry in the UK, highlight the enormous potential of AI in healthcare as it promises to increase efficiency and improve outcomes.

The NHS has, however, experienced difficulties in the past in realising the benefits of technology. It has often simply layered these on top of existing structures. Given the big hype around AI, there would be a danger of replicating past mistakes, when a radically different approach to technological adoption is required. It is crucial to understand what AI can do to help reform the NHS and the challenges that will have to be tackled to fully reap the benefits of this technology.

Reform is delighted to be holding this panel event on the use of artificial intelligence in healthcare to explore some of these issues. This event will also mark the launch of Reform’s new report on the opportunities and challenges of artificial intelligence within the NHS.

Panelists include:

  • Rt Hon Norman Lamb MP, Chair of the Science and Technology Committee (Keynote speech)
  • Maxine MacKintosh, Co-Founder, One HealthTech and Data Science PhD student, University College London
  • Dr Navin Ramachandran, Honorary Senior Lecturer UCL CHIME, Healthcare Specialist IOTA Foundation
  • Eleonora Harwich, Head of Digital and Technology Innovation, Reform
  • Hetan Shah, Executive Director, Royal Statistical Society (chair)

The event is taking place on Thursday 11 January at 10:30am for 11:00 – 12.00am in a central London location.
