An inclusive workplace: how can employers support disabled people into and in work?

Reform convened a research roundtable entitled ‘An inclusive workplace: how can employers support disabled people into and in work?’

The discussion explored the business case for employers to recruit and retain more people with a disability, highlighting the need for an employer-led approach. Educating employers and using role models on recruitment panels were raised as ways to reduce unconscious bias in recruitment. Similarly increasing access to training such as supported internships and apprenticeships could also aid in recruitment. Finally, greater employer involvement in rehabilitation services may help to retain employees with a disability or health condition in the workplace.
