Reform convened a private policy dinner on the theme “Achieving the vision: better workplace health” with Simon Stevens, Chief Executive Officer at NHS England.
The Five Year Forward View bravely called for English healthcare to get serious about prevention. This includes workplace health. Given the proportion of citizens in the workforce, and the amount of time they spend at work, new efforts by employers will make a significant difference. Better workplace health will also go hand-in-hand with greater efforts by individuals to manage their own well-being and health. The national health policy debate will always be drawn towards issues of service redesign and staffing but arguably the ideas on prevention and workplace deserve greater attention. Prevention in healthcare will become an even more pressing issue within the current economic climate.
This discussion explored how employers can practically address the issue of workplace health, including financial incentives, initiatives and the role of the individual in the workplace. The event was held in partnership with Simpyhealth.
