Head of Education
I’m thrilled to be leading Reform’s education work, and am aiming to build on its excellent reputation that has been developed by talented team members here past and present, in education and beyond. I’ll be working with colleagues across the whole team on a wide variety of research projects and events – all intended to help decision-makers make evidence-informed choices.
I’ve spent over a decade working in education research and policy, both in-house and as a consultant. Previous employers and clients have included the National Foundation for Education Research (NFER), Taylor & Francis, the Careers & Enterprise Company, the Higher Education Policy Institute (HEPI), NAHT Edge, Pearson, FreshMinds Research, a healthcare multinational, a Cabinet Minister in a UK Govt Department, an MP, the Teacher Training Agency, Westminster Council, and the Higher Education Academy. I also worked and studied in Los Angeles with roles at the UCLA Anderson Management School and a start-up.
I volunteer as a school governor in Hackney and Tower Hamlets. I studied at York, UCLA and Cambridge.
Outside work I can be found playing sport, using a camera or getting out into the hills.
My favourite reformer… in education has to be Horace Mann, for promoting universal education that goes beyond narrow group interests. More widely I also have a soft-spot for Hilary Mantel’s Thomas Cromwell.
I’m most likely to say… can you summarise that in one sentence and a picture?
What gets me out of bed in the morning… is the chance to get on my bike and experience the elements a little.
